Enough means how much or how many is required.
So, who decides how much is required and does everything have requirements?
I wish! That would make my 2025 one word journey with enough so much easier.
When there are specific requirements, it’s easy for me to tell if I’ve done enough.
I take supplements every day. I know exactly how many to take of each kind, whether to take them with food or not and what time of day to take them. Enough is easy!
A dashboard light comes on when my car needs an oil change; I know that I’ve driven enough miles and it’s time to take my car in for service.
Paying bills is simple; there is a set amount, and I pay it.
What about all the everyday life stuff that has no requirements?
But, what about tipping? There are recommendations about how much to tip for certain things, but the tip is supposed to reflect our satisfaction with the service. I don’t know for sure, but I think I tend to tip too much because I’d rather feel like I gave too much than too little.
What about workouts? We’re supposed to challenge ourselves with resistance training. If I never use more than a 5# weight, I limit how strong I will get. As I increase weights, I’m going to feel it and likely feel sore. What is too sore?
Many things have guidelines instead of requirements, but sometimes those guidelines seem like too much or too little. I could go off about speed limits, which I tend to think are usually too little, but that’s because I like to drive fast!
What I’ve discovered this week about enough is:
· Requirements make knowing what is enough easier
· I’m very good about meeting the requirements if I agree or they make sense to me
· Most of my life has no requirements of how much or how many, and I have work to do to figure out how I decide what feels right to me
