I don’t know about you, but when I get a fortune cookie with my takeout food, I am VERY sad when I open the cookie and in anticipation of a fortune, I get a lame quote. It just happened to me last week and somehow the cookie didn’t taste as good.
On the other hand, I recently had a Jonny Pop and was delighted when I finished my pop and found this wonderful little message on the stick. It wasn’t a fortune, but it was great advice!
Be the reason someone smiles today!
I washed the stick and promptly brought it to my office where it sits in front of me. I can’t avoid seeing this message that the universe sent to me.
Every day we are the reason for someone to do something. Technically, we have lots of reasons to make lots of someones to do lots of somethings!
Just for the fun of it, let’s consider a few options:
Be the reason someone cries today
Be the reason someone yells today
Be the reason someone is angry today
Be the reason someone feels badly today
Be the reason someone gets sick today
Be the reason someone quits today
Be the reason someone feels good about themselves today
Be the reason someone stays today
Be the reason someone feels needed today
Be the reason someone feels loved today
Be the reason someone is grateful today
I am certain that I have been many of the reasons on this list. My little popsicle stick has given me pause to think about what I want to be the reasons for and change my actions. As a result, I have:
Not sent an email
Taken a walk and a deep breath
Tried to see things their way
Taken time to listen
Told someone thank you
Tried to understand
Told someone I loved them
Gotten over it
Looked in the mirror and owned my part
Wouldn’t it feel great to go to sleep at night and know that you were the reason someone smiled?
You know, sometimes you are the only person that does or says something that puts a smile on another’s face. That is a powerful gift! Let’s do it!
