Everyone publishes a list this time of year, why shouldn't I?
I had lots of ideas for lists, but when it came to actually putting pen to paper, most of them didn't seem worthy of the time you would spend reading them. I felt pressure to put together something that would truly be valuable. So, I went with my 10 favorite quotes from 2014. In actuality, some of these quotes have been in my life since way before 2014, but for this year, THESE are the quotes that have great meaning for me. I hope you enjoy them. (in most cases, I have no idea who the authors are, but I don't care - being without an author doesn't make them any less powerful to me - I hope you feel the same)
**********
#10 We truly believe that it is possible to make others see what we want them to see, and we exhaust ourselves in the process.
#9 We never touch people so lightly that we do not leave a trace.
#8 You can only see your reflection in still water.
#7 It’s not so much that we’re afraid of change, or so in love with the old way, but it’s that place in between we fear; it’s like being in between trapezes. It’s like Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There is nothing to hold on to.
#6 The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.
#5 Noticing - simply noticing - may be the most important skill we ever develop.
#4 I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can’t make it through one door, I’ll go through another door or I’ll make a door.
#3 Both tears and sweat are salty, but they render a different result. Tears will get you sympathy, sweat will get you change.
#2 I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.
#1 You deserve what you tolerate.
